35TH ANNUAL DOWNTOWN DELRAY FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS
It’s time for a renewal! Or not, it’s fine to stay the same if that’s
what makes you happiest. But if you want to refresh your home,
refresh your outlook or refresh your weekend, then head to the
35th Annual Downtown Delray Festival of the Arts. January is International
Creativity Month and is the perfect time to get a little creative
inspiration from some of the best artists and crafters around
the country. Consistently ranked as one of the best art affairs in the
U.S., this juried Festival boasts long-time favorite vendors on the contemporary
arts scene. Visitors can expect to peruse booths featuring
hand-crafted artwork including glass, photography, painting, mixed
media, fiber, jewelry and much more. The Festival is held Saturday,
January 13 and Sunday, January 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 104
W. Atlantic Ave. (between Northwest Fifth Avenue and Swinton Avenue).
The weather should be prime for your lovely one-mile artistic
jaunt, and hopefully you’ll be able to soak up some creativity from
the vendors, or even find a creative piece that speaks to you and tells
you to take it home, reminding you to find creative outlets throughout
the year. Please visit www.artfestival.com or call (561) 746-6615
WELLNESS WEDNESDAY AT THE SQUARE
Hey, self, howaya? If you haven’t checked in with your self
in a while, the time is now. You’ve got a new year to look
forward to and the person who is always going to be there
with you and for you is your Self! January is Self Love Month and
if you need an excuse to pamper yourself and check in on your inner
being, go ahead and schedule yourself for Wellness Wednesday
at The Square. These $5 healing classes include yoga, meditation
and tai chi, and are meant to provide guests with a break in the
middle of the day where they can connect with their community,
quiet their mind and move their body. The schedule rotates, but the
goal is always the same: showing yourself some love. Sure, lunch
is a great mid-day activity, but this event will prove to be the best
food for your soul. Classes are held at the Cornell Art Museum at
Old School Square, 51 N. Swinton Ave., from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration
is required (walk-ups not allowed) and tickets, which are
non-refundable, must be presented at check-in. Please visit www.
downtowndelraybeach.com or call (561) 243-1077 for more information
and to purchase tickets.
LEMONGRASS
If your blood type is ABV+, your skin is lacking its luster, and
you are tripping without the usual pep-in-your-step after all
the holiday festivities, it might be time to show yourself some
chicken-soup-for-the-tired-soul love. After all, there are almost as
many benefits of soups as there are soups out there. So grab yourself
a steaming bowl and cleanse the body one spoonful at a time.
The best soups to achieve this goal are packed with ginger, lemongrass,
a hearty broth and loads of spices. A great place to start
is at Lemongrass where you can enjoy their Tom Kha Soup. This
spicy, coconut-base soup with lemongrass, mushrooms and scallions
for $8.95 has the right amount of spice to bring your body
to life. Or, Ramen 369 and their Miso Ramen will have you feeling
fine in no time, thanks to all the benefits of miso. The bowl comes
with chicken broth and miso with chashu, wood ear mushrooms,
bamboo shoots and scallions for $18. Ziree’s soups also pack a bold
punch of flavor and recuperative efforts, especially with their Tom
Yum Ta-Lay. This Thai-style hot and sour lemongrass soup comes
with shrimp, scallops, squid, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, and
a touch of lime juice for $7.95. Sweaty forehead, yes. Comforting
stomach, also yes. Please visit www.downtowndelraybeach.com or
call (561)243-1077 for specific restaurant information.
