the ideal time to enjoy typical Italian dolce vita with
a delicious ice cream and local wine.
When the sky is clear and the wind is still, you
might like to hike up to the mysterious Ice Holes and
cool off. Or you could visit the Mendel – accessible
by hiking or by taking the Mendel aerial cableway.
Soon afterwards, the whole village will be abuzz
with activity. It’s the Harvest Season. The weather
is still warm. The heady scent of ripening grapes
hangs in the air. In the morning, the cool forest
shadows beckon. Come explore the Rastenbach
Gorge. Conquer the Leuchtenburg – you’ll be rewarded
with fantastic views into the deep and into
the distance.
You’ve heard a lot about the fabulous hiking trails
here. But hiking reaches its zenith in the autumn.
You’ll be hard pressed to explore all 180 km of
hiking trails in just a few weeks. You can wander
along these paths alone or in groups. Children can
discover trees, leaves, and flowers. Some of the trails
feature steep inclines along some of the way. But in
any case, you’re guaranteed a unique experience.
And what better way to celebrate a successful hike
than to visit the Kaltern Wine Culinarium – where
wine and fine goods join hands. And there’s also
the Kaltern Pop Festival, with music to excite and
charm.
And once the harvest is over and the wine has
been safely stored in the wine cellar, it’s the Season
for Togetherness. That’s when friends join together
to celebrate the delightful local custom of “Törggelen”.
Nothing better expresses how close-knit
our village community is. Come taste the “New
Wine” and celebrate the bountiful harvest! You can
sample delicious local delicacies, enjoy the wine,
and become acquainted with the roasted chestnuts
of which we are so proud.
As the year draws to an end, we celebrate the Festival
of Lights. During this season, our little village
squares and lanes are decorated with candles and
fir wreaths. We have our own charming little Advent
Market where friends meet and enjoy the cheerful
but peaceful atmosphere. A reverent hush settles
over our quaint village. It’s a time to make quiet
discoveries. Amidst the Giant Redwood trees, our
14 churches prepare for the Holy Season. But the
Cinema Festival at the train station ensures that
this time is not without at least a little excitement.
And so the year closes in Kaltern. A new year of funfilled
seasons will soon begin! Each season has
its own flair, its own colors and scents – its own
mood. The perfect opportunity to re-discover our
wonderful village. Come and immerse yourself in
our down-to-earth culture! Experience the beautiful
landscape! Enjoy the merriment and quaint
hustle-and-bustle of an authentic South Tyrolean
village! Your time in this idyllic place will reward
you with memories for a lifetime!
