Kaltern. Beautiful Lake Kaltern.
And the delicious Kalterersee wines.
A lake widely praised as the warmest bathing lake of
the Alps. And a red wine pressed from the indigenous
Vernatsch grape variety, named after the lake itself,
and home to the fertile terroir which gives rise to
this unique regional speciality. They join together to
form not only a spectacular landscape, but also the
homeland, identity, and soul of this, one of the mostcharming
wine villages of South Tyrol. Besides the
beautiful lake and the delicious wines, you’ll also
find a host of picturesque traditions and day-to-day
customs that contribute to a rich culture centering
around enjoyment. The lake is like a mirror:
The spring is a time of rebirth; the summer is
characterized by Mediterranean “dolce vita”; the wine
harvest dominates the autumn; and the winter is a
time of quiet contemplation. In the course of the year,
there are countless opportunities to set out on foot
and explore the area, to cycle to your heart’s content,
to wander in awe amongst primeval forests, or to go on
adventures. And then there are the visitors who want to
experience a slower-paced vacation and to discover our
area’s culinary delights. All these facets can be enjoyed
