41 The new South Tyrol Guest Pass Sustainable holidays in Kaltern As a premiere holiday destination, both Kaltern and South Tyrol as a whole attach great importance to the concept of sustainability. With the new Guest Pass now introduced throughout South Tyrol, our guests can make use of all public transportation systems in the südtirolmobil combined system – including the Mendel Funicular in Kaltern. This Guest Pass is a guest card which is already included in the regular room price of participating lodging establishments. Make sure to look for the corresponding icon in the attached list of inns, bed & breakfasts, and hotels. Your name and the duration of your stay are written on the reverse side of the South Tyrol Guest Pass. The services and discounts to which you are entitled can be claimed for the duration of your vacation stay. The South Tyrol Guest Pass must be validated when beginning each individual trip. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION Good connections Kaltern can be reached from the provincial capital of Bozen by bus in 15-minute intervals. Within Kaltern, you can take the City Bus and/or the Lake Bus and Hiking Bus. In the summertime, the City Bus provides extended service – until 10:00 p.m. – on Thursdays. SUSTAINABILITY Guest Pass – variants The Guest Pass not only provides you with extra mobility but can contain also a package of additional services, for example admission to museums, selected wine services, or a combination of both, depending on the variant your accommodations offers A BIT OF HISTORY The Mendel Funicular With a slope of 64%, the Mendel Funicular, which opened in 1903, was once regarded as the steepest and longest continuous funicular in Europe. This masterpiece of engineering has survived over a century and is still a technical monument of international interest.
