around. The world is still and peaceful: The lake, the<br />
vineyards, the Leuchtenburg, the distant horizon.<br />
My mission: To cycle a stretch, collect myself,<br />
and then lose myself. My way passes through the<br />
Rastenbach Gorge – a marvelous place I’ve heard<br />
a lot about both from the locals and the Kaltern<br />
podcast. They say that the morning in the Gorge is<br />
something really special. The sun has arrived. The<br />
surroundings are bathed in a soft glow, all the way<br />
to the lake. And now I’m headed for Altenburg/<br />
Castelvecchio. The forest envelops me and closes<br />
the sky above me.<br />
The air is heavy with moisture and full of life.<br />
I cross little bridges and pathways. I inhale and exhale.<br />
I stop and look around me. I feel the water on<br />
my skin and in my hair. I hear the water bubbling,<br />
splashing, roaring, dripping. Twigs breaking. Birds<br />
chirping. I see moss adorning rocks and boulders<br />
and climbing up tree trunks. It’s a fairytale setting.<br />
Shafts of light stream down through the forest,<br />
giving it the appearance of a cathedral.<br />
Lost in deep thoughts, I forget about the bat cave<br />
that’s supposed to be located somewhere around<br />
here. The Great Horseshoe Bat and the Greater<br />
Mouse-Ear Bat are at home here. I’d love to get<br />
