Koenig: Without giving names; We are a full-service shipyard, having hauled yacht up to 1.320 tons. Additionally, we have provided dockside refit services for yachts up to 117 metres. Our range of services includes everything from simple bottom jobs to full refits, facilitated through our in-house trades and a network of over 120 contractors. How do you argue against reservations about hurricane risk in Florida? Shine: Hurricanes are a risk, but mainly an insurance issue. Derecktor has lived with hurricanes for 50+ years in Florida. Tropical cyclones and intense weather are something we are accustomed to mitigating and living with. Last year, we had a 73 metres on the hard while a hurricane passed directly over Fort Pierce with no accident or damage. If an insurance carrier for one of our customers requires an extra premium to be here in hurricane season, we are willing to help cover that expense. For crews, the refit base is sometimes crucial. What can Fort Pierce offer? Koenig: Fort Pierce offers a more relaxed »Old Florida« vibe, a welcome change for many captains and crews tired of the busyness in Fort Lauderdale. Despite the laid-back atmosphere, the downtown area still offers plenty of activities.
