5 point plus child car seat anti escape

INTRODUCTION
Research indicated that 70% of children aged up to 3
years old removed their arms and shoulders out of the
car seat’s five point harness, creating a potentially
lethal lap belt.
In addition to the higher probability of having a traffic
accident due to driver distraction, a 50km/h crash
generates 60g of force on a child. The risks include:
1) rupturing internal organs (liver, spleen and kidneys)
2) red release buckle could penetrate the abdomen
3) head colliding with the seat in front, B pillar or side
windows
DESIGN FLAW
Child car seats fitted with a harness (five point and
three point harnesses) tend to have a significant gap
between the child’s torso and the harness itself.
Children can easily push their hands and arms
through this gap, under the harness, and simply lever
the tight harness off their shoulders.
SOLUTION
The solution is to shield the two gaps between the
harness and torso so that children cannot push their
arms under the harness to lever it off their shoulders.
