Handguns – Home Safety and
Personal Protection
Applicable “use of force” issues and information,
self protections tips, knowledge of
civil liability issues, and information on
various gun permits are the focus of this
course. It will also provide the student
with four hours of hands-on range time.

This course covers legal authority; constitutional
restrictions; principals of justification;
PA Crimes Code; limited authority;
incident investigation; testifying in court;
academic examination; armed and
unarmed defense; introduction to
firearms; and firearms range. Begin the
process by applying to the state online at

with the state is $74, which includes a $50
application fee and a $24 FBI fingerprint
check. Physical, eye and psychological
exams are also required. After successful
completion of the course an additional $30
certification fee is payable to the state.

Patrol Rifle
This 12-hour course is an introduction to
training students in the use of rifles/carbines
suitable for law enforcement.
Tactical use of the weapon is stressed
throughout the program, as is the judicious
use of deadly force at close to intermediate
ranges. This program is designed
for police, corrections, and security operations.
