Lot 353 Trick Pony Bank
Shepard Hardware Company
Buffalo, New York –
Circa 1888
The “Trick Pony” bank evokes
the mystique of the carousel
horse. How is it possible that a
fi nely carved wooden pony can
bend his head forward to get
a sip of imaginary water?
Yet, because of the ingenuity
of mechanical bank designers,
he magically comes to life.
Place a coin in the pony’s mouth
and pull the lever. The pony
leans forward to deposit the
coin into his trough.
Material: Cast Iron
Provenance:
Larry Feld Collection
Condition: Pristine Plus
Estimate: $5,500 - $7,500
