Lot 209 Automatic Fortune Savings Bank (Tin) Patent by Leon Soroko London, England – February 22, 1926 An extremely rare and desirable bank. Place a coin in the slot atop the bank and dial will spin randomly. Where it stops, your fortune is told. Probably only 5 or 6 known examples of this bank. Material: Lithographed Tin Condition: Excellent Plus Estimate: $4,500 - $6,500 Lot 211 Bear – Slot in Chest Made by the Kenton Mfg. Co. Kenton, Ohio – Circa 1910 When a coin is put into the bear’s chest, the mouth will open. Material: Cast Iron Condition: Very Good Estimate: $1,200 - $1,800 71 Lot 210 Bad Accident Made by the J. & E. Stevens Company Cromwell, Connecticut – Circa 1888 A racist depiction of a black driver eating watermelon as he takes his cart to market. Place a coin between the drivers feet, depress the lever and a little black boy comes out from behind the bush, causing the mule to rear and the cart to fl ip back; “A Bad Accident”. Material: Cast Iron Condition: Very Fine and Bright Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000 Lot 212 Bear and Tree Stump Made by the H. L. Judd Manufacturing Company Wallingford, Connecticut – Circa 1880 This is the rare version of this exquisite little bank, presented with deluxe Japanned black fi nish. Be careful or the hungry bear will swallow all your coins. Material: Cast Iron Condition: Excellent Plus Estimate: $1,500 - $2,000
Lot 213 Bird on Roof Bank Made by the J. & E. Stevens Company Cromwell, Connecticut – Circa 1878 To operate, place the bird in the upright position and pull the lever. The bird’s crest feathers will drop the penny directly into the bank. Material: Cast Iron Provenance: Robert Brady Condition: Excellent Estimate: $2,500 - $3,500 Lot 214 Boy on Trapeze J. Barton Smith Company Philadelphia, PA – Circa 1890 This bank was originally marketed as “French’s Automatic Toy Savings Bank”. Presumably, when adjusted properly, the weights of different size coins determine how many revolutions the boy will make. At least, that was their original marketing claim.
