Lot 248 The Two Frogs Bank
Mint in the Original Box
Based on a design by James Bowen
Manufactured by the J. & E. Stevens Company
Cromwell, Connecticut – Circa 1882
Once again, the frog pond beside the Steven’s
foundry building must have provided the
humorous imagery for this playful bank. Place
a coin on the belly of the small frog, press the
lever and it’s kicked into the bigger frog’s
mouth. The action is so fast that the human
eye cannot detect the movement of the coin
into the bank.
Material: Cast Iron
Provenance: Bill Bertoia, Stanley Kesselman
and Larry Feld Collection
Condition: As Mint as it gets
Possibly the fi nest known specimen
Estimate: $20,000 - $30,000
