Made by the J. & E. Stevens Company
Cromwell, Connecticut – Circa 1883
Stevens originally marketed this politically
themed bank as “The American Eagle Bank”.
It depicts a mother feeding her young,
defenseless chicks. Place a coin in the eagle’s
beak, depress the lever and she leans forward,
spreading her majestic wings, and appears to
feed her babies. However, there is no worm,
just a shiny coin to content them.
Internal bellows simulate a chirping
sound simultaneously.
