Black Solander (<strong>in</strong>stallation shot at PICA Perth) <strong>in</strong>k, graphite and spirit based <strong>in</strong>k on sugar paper, 2005 Gregory Pryor<br />
should be reflective <strong>of</strong> the dark language <strong>of</strong> Victorian<br />
mourn<strong>in</strong>g rituals.<br />
When the day came to f<strong>in</strong>ally beg<strong>in</strong> the project, I<br />
stepped out <strong>of</strong> my house <strong>in</strong> the morn<strong>in</strong>g and the entire<br />
city <strong>of</strong> Perth was shrouded <strong>in</strong> thick smoke from bushfires<br />
burn<strong>in</strong>g out <strong>of</strong> control <strong>in</strong> the hills <strong>of</strong> the Darl<strong>in</strong>g scarp.<br />
Despite the poor visibility, this time, I knew where I was<br />
go<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
