<strong>The</strong> aim <strong>of</strong> this study was to <strong>in</strong>vestigate the <strong>role</strong> <strong>of</strong> SR-<strong>BI</strong> <strong>in</strong> HCV attachment<br />

and entry, us<strong>in</strong>g recomb<strong>in</strong>ant soluble HCV glycoprote<strong>in</strong>s and the HCVcc/pp<br />

<strong>in</strong>fectious models. In do<strong>in</strong>g this, we also hoped to exam<strong>in</strong>e the importance <strong>of</strong><br />

lipoprote<strong>in</strong>s <strong>in</strong> HCV <strong>in</strong>fection. <strong>The</strong> broad objective <strong>of</strong> the Birm<strong>in</strong>gham HCV<br />

Research Group is to characterise the routes <strong>of</strong> transmission exhibited by<br />

HCV, specifically focuss<strong>in</strong>g on the <strong>in</strong>terplay between virus particles and<br />

cellular <strong>receptor</strong>s.
