4.3 XIV Management Tools <strong>and</strong> Support Tools<br />

The following management <strong>and</strong> support tools are available for XIV systems.<br />

4.3.1 XIV Management Tools<br />

To facilitate the configuration <strong>and</strong> monitoring of one or more XIV systems, <strong>IBM</strong> provides<br />

XIV Management Tools.<br />

<strong>IBM</strong> XIV Management Tools include the following options:<br />

► <strong>IBM</strong> XIV Graphical User Interface (XIVGUI)<br />

► <strong>IBM</strong> XIV Comm<strong>and</strong> Line Interface (XCLI)<br />

► <strong>IBM</strong> XIV Online Monitoring Tool (XIVTop)<br />

4.3.2 Host Attachment Kits<br />

Starting with version 10.1.x of the XIV system software, <strong>IBM</strong> also provides updates to all of<br />

the Host Attachment Kits (version 1.1 or later). It is m<strong>and</strong>atory to install the Host Attachment<br />

Kit to be able to get support from <strong>IBM</strong>, even if it might not be technically necessary for some<br />

operating systems. Host Attachment Kits (HAKs) are built on a Python framework with the<br />

intention of providing a consistent look <strong>and</strong> feel across various operating system (OS)<br />

platforms. The following features are included:<br />

► Provides backwards compatibility with versions 10.0.x of the XIV system software<br />

► Validates patch <strong>and</strong> driver versions<br />

► Sets up multipathing<br />

► Adjusts system tunable parameters (if required) for performance<br />

► Provides installation wizard<br />

► Includes management utilities<br />

► Includes support <strong>and</strong> troubleshooting utilities<br />

4.4 Logical configuration for host connectivity<br />

This section describes the tasks required to define a volume (LUN) <strong>and</strong> assign it to a host:<br />

1. Create a storage pool.<br />

2. Create a volume within the storage pool.<br />

3. Define a host.<br />

4. Map the volume to the host.<br />

5. Add FC ports to the host.<br />
