4.10.3 Windows 2008 R2 best practices<br />

The following section outlines Windows 2008 R2 best practices related to multipathing<br />

settings.<br />

Optimizing multipathing policies<br />

For Windows 2008 R2, the use of the Round Robin multipathing policy can be used to<br />

effectively distribute I/O. To verify current multipath policy settings, the Windows Disk<br />

Management utility can be used.<br />

To start Disk Management, the comm<strong>and</strong> diskmgmt.msc can be executed from a comm<strong>and</strong><br />

line. To display multipathing information for a given disk device, right-click the device <strong>and</strong><br />

select Properties. It is outlined in Figure 4-66.<br />

From within the properties panel, the MPIO tab displays information about the current<br />

multipathing configuration. In the example shown in Figure 4-67, we can see that XIV I/O will<br />

be distributed across two active paths by the use of the Round Robin policy.<br />
