Tom Rients of Streator has powered his<br />

bright orange No . 49 late model to 2 feature<br />

wins, 3 heat wins, and also a 3rd place in<br />

another feature to pace the point standings<br />

in the late model division with 101 points .<br />

Bob Line of Kankakee is running a strong second<br />

by compiling his 85 points with a<br />

feature win, a 2nd place feature finish, and a<br />

heat win . The other lone feature winner was<br />

Denny Carpenter of Darlington, <strong>In</strong>d. Joe<br />

Williams (Arrowsmith) is third in points with<br />

72 points, Don Chandler (Pontiac) 63 points<br />

for 4th, and Steve Tyne (Streator) and<br />

Carpenter fifth with 57 points. On June 4th<br />

Carpenter set a new track record in qualifying<br />

for late models with a 13.509 second<br />

clocking . The old record was held by Bob<br />

Pierce of Danville .<br />

<strong>In</strong> the super six cylinder class Gary Eden<br />

(Flanagan) has two feature wins and a heat<br />

race win to go along with a new track record<br />

of 15 .488 seconds established on June 11 .<br />

Eden had set a track record on May 28 with a<br />

15.618 only to have Frank Wright of Danville<br />

clock a 15,590 on June 4 with Eden breaking<br />

Our first article of the season comes on a vary said note .<br />

On Saturday, May 28, Rob Jones lost his life in a one car<br />

modified accident . Rob was 27 years old, married and had<br />

one daughter, Rhonda . Rob and his father Gene who was<br />

also racing the same program in the sportsman division<br />

have been racing several years . Rob began his career in<br />

1974 in the sportsman class at Godfrey and St . Charles . He<br />

was track champion for two years in late model and sport .<br />

smon . He mode his home in Maryland Heights, Mo .<br />

We at CARA will feel a great loss and will miss Rob for<br />

o long time. Our hearts go out to Rob's wife Jan and the entire<br />

family. Rob was a good Christian and was prepared to<br />
