QUIPS<br />
Sunday night racing at Quincy Raceways proved to be too<br />
much our and tear on some racing machines and driven . A<br />
dry slick track mode ordinary racing impossible and cautious<br />
racing a must. Even after Promoter Albert Scan bladed the<br />
track . it still refused to hold.<br />
Several hord .running Lose Models of the Quincy track suf .<br />
tared extensive damage in heat races and were unable to<br />
repair for the features . Among them were John Miller . Keokuk,<br />
Sonny Findling, Kirksville, and Bart Allen, Novinger . No injuries<br />
were recorded .<br />
Those late models who slipped and slid their way to victory<br />
in the heats were Terry Gallaher, Hannibal ; Dick Crane .<br />
Palmyra ; and Dick Schilt . Waterloo (la .) . Crone also powered<br />
his '83 Camaro to the checkers in the Hard"s Trophy Dash,<br />
Steve Froiso of Montrose came from behind to win the feature<br />
event as he was lined up in the 3rd row and steadily moved for<br />
word on the competition . Schiltz . a top NASCAR competitor<br />
from the Iowa area, snatched the 2nd spot away from Crane,<br />
while Ron Elbe of Augusta pursued and passed Terry Gallaher<br />
of Hannibal for 3rd spot . Harley Harrelson of Brashear survived<br />
to take 6th . Ivan Long of Pittsfield took a long awaited win in<br />
the semi .<br />
The Sportsman races were filled with fender-bender action<br />
and several yeliow.lightt but Jim Roach . Keokuk made it o clean<br />
sweep as he won-his heat, the TNT Trophy Dash . and the<br />
feature event . Other heat winner were Henry Delonlay and<br />
Mike Bowen, both of Quincy . Ron Monroe of Hamilton gained<br />
the advantage on Bowen to take 2nd and Bob Ellis of Limo out .<br />
distanced Charlie Baker, Hannibal for 4th .<br />

Rollover action in the Roadrunner class consisted of Mark<br />
Holtmeyer and Andy Dittmar both of Quincy . Tony Warner .<br />
Caincy George Morgan . Shelbina: and Rod Webster,<br />
Lewistown won hoots and Hal Roach of Canton grabbed the win<br />
in the feature over Lonnie Bailey of Qcy . John Bringer of<br />
LaGrange made a comeback this weak taking 3rd spot away<br />
from Jeff Klingele of Quincy .<br />
Street Stock winners of heats were Orville Owsley, Qcy .,<br />
and Mike Newberry of Canton . Newberry also won the feature<br />
with Scott Bore of Quincy taking 2nd in the hometown favorite<br />
- little green Mazda rotary engine . Ed Huddleston and Randy<br />
Reed both of Quincy diced it up, but Huddleston nailed 3rd .<br />
Memorial Day Racing (May 20 )<br />
At 5 :30 p .m . Monday night, as cars were in the process of<br />
checking-in and the grandstand was filling up . a cold front mov .<br />
ed in from the north and deposited a bucket full of rom on Quin .<br />
cy Raceways . Within a half hour, however, the rain had stopped<br />
and the skies returned to blue . Track personnel went to work<br />
binding the track and than using the "dragon' on LP gas burner<br />
which enabled them to dry the track sufficiently for the<br />
Memorial Day races to get underway .<br />
The track was in excellent condition - the best to date and<br />
Late Models whirred around in record time . Heat winners were<br />
Roger Dolan . Lisbon, to . : Dan Dickey . Packwood, Ia . . and Dick<br />
Crane, Palmyra . Mo . Crane also took the checkers in the hard .<br />
fought Hard" 's Trophy Dash . Steve Froise of Montrose, having<br />
had bad luck in the heat did win the semi from Dick Schiln of<br />
Waterloo, Ia . Dolan made his bid in the first Late Model 35 lop<br />
feature, but suffered a flat tire in the second feature . Schiltz<br />
powered his race machine to a 2nd place in the first event and<br />
top spot in the second . Sonny Findling of Kirksville snagged two<br />
thirds char having extensive damage done to his race car last<br />
night . Steve Praise of Montrose pulled from behind in 'soth<br />
features to take 4th in both, while Ron Elbe of Augusta and<br />
Terry Gol ier of Hannibal split the 5th spots . Dickey took a 6th<br />
in the first and 2nd in the second feature . Crone was the 6th<br />
place winner in the 2nd feature .<br />
Henry Dekonjoy and Ron Arnold of Quincy both were heat<br />
winners in the Sportsman class . Jim Roach of Canton on the<br />
TNT Trophy Dash, DeLonjay led the feature event for all but the<br />
lost 4 lops when Ron Monroe of Hamilton swept by and maim<br />
,aimed his lend to the checkers . Roach took 3rd in a hair raising<br />
battle with Dennis McCoy of Hannibal ,<br />
Lonnie Bailey . 18 year aid Quincy driver continues his bid to<br />
dominate the Roadrunner class by capturing his heat race and<br />
the feature in that class . Rod Webster of Lewistown also was a<br />
heat winner . Second spot fell to Jeff Klingele of Quincy . and 3rd<br />
went to Webster .<br />
Bruce Felker and Orville Owsley both of Quincy were heat<br />
winners in the Street Stock class . New driver 8ill Taylor of Ew'<br />
ing scored his first feature win . while Dave Daniels and Owsley<br />
fell into 2nd and 3rd .<br />
