<strong>Duke</strong> Center for International Development<br />
The <strong>Duke</strong> Center for International Development (DCID) is located in <strong>Duke</strong>'s Terry<br />
Sanford Institute <strong>of</strong> Public Policy. The center's core faculty are drawn from a variety <strong>of</strong><br />
academic disciplines including economics, political science, environmental studies, public<br />
policy, gender studies and peace and conflict resolution. The faculty's teaching, research,<br />
and consulting experience are international in scope, encompassing a broad range <strong>of</strong><br />
development policy issues.<br />
The center consists <strong>of</strong> four distinct components: 1). The Program in International<br />
Development Policy (PIDP), which provides graduate-level education in policy and<br />
economic analysis and problems related to sustainable development for mid-career<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. PIDP Fellows may pursue ei<strong>the</strong>r a Master’s degree or non-degree certificate<br />
in International Development Policy; 2). Executive Education programs on issues related<br />
to public finance and sustainable development; 3). The Rotary Center for International<br />
Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution, one <strong>of</strong> seven centers in <strong>the</strong> world funded by<br />
Rotary International and hosted jointly by DCID and <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> North Carolina at<br />
Chapel Hill's Center for International Studies; and 4). Overseas advising to governments<br />
in developing countries in <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong> public finance, project appraisal, and development.<br />
DCID also sponsors conferences, a monthly "Rethinking Development Policy"<br />
speaker series, and co-sponsors <strong>the</strong> North Carolina Triangle Chapter <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Society for<br />

Center for International Studies<br />
This center is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> major coordinating units in <strong>the</strong> university which stimulates<br />
dialogue and research on global issues. The center sponsors a number <strong>of</strong> faculty<br />
committees on major world regions and on transnational analytical <strong>the</strong>mes. As a U.S.<br />
Department <strong>of</strong> Education National Resource Center in International Studies, <strong>the</strong> center<br />
funds a series <strong>of</strong> courses on global issues <strong>of</strong> interest to graduate students. These courses<br />
provide opportunities for teaching assistantships for graduate students in <strong>the</strong> humanities<br />
and social sciences. In addition, <strong>the</strong> center sponsors a program <strong>of</strong> awards for graduate<br />

Kenan Institute for Ethics<br />
The Kenan Institute for Ethics at <strong>Duke</strong> <strong>University</strong> supports <strong>the</strong> study and teaching <strong>of</strong><br />
ethics and promotes moral reflection and commitment in personal, pr<strong>of</strong>essional,<br />
community and civic life. The program encourages moral inquiry across intellectual<br />
disciplines and pr<strong>of</strong>essions and moral reflection about campus practices and policies. The<br />
program also supports efforts to address ethical questions <strong>of</strong> public concern within and<br />
across communities. Its work is guided by <strong>the</strong> conviction that universities have a<br />
responsibility to prepare students for lives <strong>of</strong> personal integrity and reflective citizenship<br />
by nurturing <strong>the</strong>ir capacities for critical thinking, compassion, courage, and <strong>the</strong>ir concern<br />
for justice. The Institute sponsors a variety <strong>of</strong> programs and projects related to its mission,<br />
including a Dissertation Fellowship, a Graduate Instructorship, an interdisciplinary<br />
Graduate Colloquium in Ethics, and Campus Grants <strong>of</strong> up to $500 to support initiatives at<br />
<strong>Duke</strong> that promote ethical or moral reflection, deliberation and dialogue. For information,<br />

The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies coordinates graduate education<br />
