This task bridges the gap between understanding a text and actively engaging with it. The candidates<br />

are required to select lexical, grammatical and structural elements in order to complete a reading<br />

passage. The text is a formal or semi-formal letter or email with the typical characteristics of the genre.<br />

Test items The task is to choose the correct word or phrase for each gap.<br />

The items do not just test grammar and vocabulary, but also the candidate’s<br />

contextual understanding of the communicative situation as a whole.<br />

Level The language for the text and items should be at level B1.<br />
