Pettit also specialized in community<br />

banking, credit administration, strategic<br />

planning for financial institutions, small<br />

<strong>McIntire</strong> Welcomes New Faculty<br />

business finance, and venture capital.<br />

Pettit’s expertise led to his participation<br />

in the design and teaching <strong>of</strong> a number<br />

<strong>of</strong> credit and corporate lending seminars<br />

for international, national, and regional<br />

banks and insurance companies. he also<br />

organized and led strategic planning and<br />

Glenn Browne (Ph.D., Business Administration, Carlson<br />

<strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Management, University <strong>of</strong> Minnesota) is an Associate<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor in the Information Technology Area. Browne is a<br />

specialist in information requirements determination, business<br />

process analysis, systems development, and managerial<br />

decision making. his current research focuses on information<br />

search, information filtering, and decision support problems on<br />

the World Wide Web and cognitive and behavioral issues in<br />

information requirements determination. he teaches courses in<br />

project management, systems analysis, and decision making.<br />

Amanda Cowen (D.B.A., Business Policy, harvard Business<br />

<strong>School</strong>) joins <strong>McIntire</strong> as an Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor in the<br />

Management Area. her recent research examines the dynamics<br />

<strong>of</strong> organizational status and how this competitive asset<br />

is affected by merger transactions and integration processes.<br />

Before joining <strong>McIntire</strong>, Cowen taught courses on leadership,<br />

organizational behavior, and strategy to graduate students and<br />

executives at the harvard Business <strong>School</strong> and the Kennedy<br />

<strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Government.<br />

Mary Erickson (M.B.A., George Mason University) is a Lecturer<br />

in the Accounting Area. erickson began her pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

career in public accounting as an auditor specializing in the<br />

insurance industry. She has also been employed as an investment<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional specializing in credit analysis and fixedincome<br />

portfolio management and as a faculty member teaching<br />

accounting and finance courses at George Mason University.<br />

Most recently, she was Director <strong>of</strong> examination Development<br />

for the CFA Institute, where she designed and assisted<br />

in the evaluation <strong>of</strong> questions appearing on the Chartered<br />

Financial Analyst examinations.<br />

regional financial institutions. Perhaps<br />

most notable are the many generations<br />

<strong>of</strong> students and graduates whom Pettit<br />

mentored and the countless jobs that<br />

he helped to identify and secure for his<br />

students.<br />

Adam Koch (Ph.D., Accounting, The University <strong>of</strong> Texas at<br />

Austin), an Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor in the Accounting Area, is an<br />

expert in financial reporting and managerial accounting. his<br />

research focuses on the valuation <strong>of</strong> earnings news, dividend<br />

signaling, and voluntary disclosure. Koch has taught a variety<br />

<strong>of</strong> financial and managerial accounting courses and is currently<br />

teaching an elective course in intermediate accounting. Before<br />

joining <strong>McIntire</strong>, Koch taught at Carnegie Mellon University<br />

as well as in a number <strong>of</strong> executive education programs.<br />

Robert Patterson (Ph.D., Communication Studies [Rhetoric<br />

and Culture], University <strong>of</strong> Nebraska-Lincoln) joins the<br />

Management Area as an Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor, teaching courses<br />

in <strong>McIntire</strong>’s Management Communication Program. his<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional experience in academia includes teaching courses<br />

in rhetoric, rhetorical theory and criticism, fundamental areas<br />

<strong>of</strong> communication, campaigns, small-group problem solving,<br />

business and pr<strong>of</strong>essional communication, and public speaking.<br />

Patterson’s pr<strong>of</strong>essional experiences in the nonpr<strong>of</strong>it sector<br />

include nonpr<strong>of</strong>it [501(c)(3)] executive management and leadership<br />

and postsecondary accreditation/compliance.<br />
