McIntire Launches New M.S. in Commerce Program
Program off ers concentrations in Financial Services and Marketing
& Management to recent liberal arts, science, and engineering grads.
Starting in the fall 2008 semester, McIntire will expand its
portfolio of world-class programs to a new group of students:
recent college graduates who want a strong foundation in business
before they enter the work force. Off ering concentrations in
Financial Services and Marketing
& Management, the one-year, 36credit-hour
program is carefully
crafted to help students develop
the practical and analytical skill
sets that today’s business world
demands.
“In an increasingly competitive
global economy, specialization
is rewarded,” says McIntire
Professor Ira harris, who will
direct the program. “Th e M.S.
in Commerce Program will help
Ira Harris, Director of the new students leverage their specialty
M.S. in Commerce Program
into a successful career.”
Th e program is divided into three academic terms. Th e
fi rst-term curriculum, harris says, is designed to provide students
with a grounding in such fundamental business skills as strategic
management, technology and innovation management, fi nancial
analysis, cost management, business communication, market
research, and change management. Th e program’s second term is
dedicated to the in-depth study of students’ chosen concentrations.
Th e third and fi nal term will comprise a
capstone project and a required period of international
residency. McIntire is currently in
conversation with various international partner
institutions to determine possible locations for
the program’s overseas component.
“We want to make sure that students master
the tools and frameworks associated with their
concentrations,” harris says. “We also want to
make sure that they understand the global and
cultural dynamics of working in and managing
organizations around the world.”
