4 If the number of interested c<strong>and</strong>idates is equal to the vacant seats available on a study<br />

programme committee, these c<strong>and</strong>idates are regarded as having been elected, <strong>and</strong> there<br />

will be no elections. If the number of interested c<strong>and</strong>idates is smaller than the vacant<br />

seats, these c<strong>and</strong>idates are regarded as having been elected, <strong>and</strong> the academy director<br />

will appoint additional c<strong>and</strong>idates to fill the remaining vacancies.<br />

5 Members of the teaching staff are appointed to the study programme committee for a<br />

duration of 2 years <strong>and</strong> are eligible for reappointment 3 times. Student members are<br />

appointed for a duration of 1 year. After having served their term on the committee, the<br />

members step down all together.<br />

6 Any member who is appointed or elected to fill an interim vacancy will continue for the<br />

remainder of the term of the member in whose place he/she has been appointed or<br />

elected.<br />

7 The term on a committee starts on 1 October after the members of the study programme<br />

committee have been selected in September.<br />

8 The membership of the study programme committee ends when the term - as referred to in<br />

section 7 of this article - comes to an end, or when the member is no longer a staff<br />

member of the department/academy upon which his/her membership was based.<br />

9 A member of the study programme committee may terminate his/her membership at any<br />

time by notifying the academy director in writing.<br />

9.2.2 Duties <strong>and</strong> powers of the study programme committee<br />

1 The legal duties <strong>and</strong> powers of the study programme committee are:<br />

a issuing advice on the teaching <strong>and</strong> examination regulations to the academy director before<br />

they are adopted by the Board of Governors; the aforesaid advice is to be submitted to the<br />

participation council for perusal as soon as possible;<br />

b annual evaluation of the way in which the teaching <strong>and</strong> examination regulations are<br />

implemented;<br />

c issuing advice, either on request or on its own initiative, to the staff <strong>and</strong> student advisory<br />

committee <strong>and</strong> the academy director on all other matters pertaining to education in their<br />

study programme or group of study programmes; the aforesaid advice is submitted to the<br />

participation council for perusal as soon as possible.<br />

9.2.3 Working procedure of the study programme committee<br />

1 The study programme committee will appoint a managing committee from among its<br />

members, consisting of a chair, deputy chair <strong>and</strong> secretary.<br />

2 The chair has the power to call together the members of the study programme committee.<br />

3 The meetings are led by the chair of the study programme committee. If the chair is absent,<br />

the deputy chair will lead the meeting. If the deputy chair is absent too, the members<br />

present will choose a person to chair the meeting.<br />

4 The secretary of the study programme committee has at least the following duties:<br />

preparing for the meetings, writing a report of the meetings <strong>and</strong> making these reports<br />

available for perusal, monitoring the decisions made at the meetings, <strong>and</strong> bearing<br />

responsibility for the filing of requests <strong>and</strong> items dealt with.<br />
