SAFFRON
Saffron is a bulbous plant lilac and purple, covered with grey reticular membranes.
Between October and November one to three flowers, known as “saffron rose”, arise
from each bulb.
Saffron with Denomination of Origin La Mancha is always harvested here.It is the world’s
most valuable spice due to its laborious process of harvesting and drying. The natural
environment, the growing conditions and the production process consisting in drying the
saffron using low heat toasting all give the final product an intense aroma, higher content
of safranal and high coloring quality.
Nationwide, Castilla La Mancha is the leading region in the saffron industry, and the
Albacete is the main producer province.
Saffron from La Mancha is considered the best in the whole world.
WINE D.O. MANCHUELA
Located between the Júcar and Cabriel Rivers, southeast of Cuenca and northeast of
Albacete, the vineyards grow on the plateau, in a dry climate under the relentless sun
that gives way to the cool, moist winds from the Mediterranean during the nights. With
such temperature contrast, the maturation period is long and the grapes are healthy
when they reach full maturity. All this facts reveal an ideal area for growing different red
varieties, mainly produced with Bobal or Cencibel varieties.
