Spanish Club Organizations and Activities for Students Every school should have a Spanish Club. This organization offers a chance to do many of the enrichment activities for which there is little or no time in the regular class period --- viewing films and filmstrips, cooking, dancing, singing, making costumes, skits, hearing a resource person from the community etc. The club can also sponsor a fund-raising project in order to purchase materials for the classroom use. If help is needed in organizing a club in your school, ask for assistance from other foreign language teachers in your school or in the Shelby County School System. Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica This Sociedad is an organization for honor students in upper level Spanish courses. The Sociedad, sponsored by the AATSP, offers travel scholarships to junior students and college scholarships to senior students. The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica also publishes a quarterly bulletin Albricias that features articles, stories, poetry, and art of Spanish students from all over the U. S. Box 5318 Buffalo Grove, IL 60089-5318 www.sociedadhonorariahispanica.org AATSP National Spanish Exam Students whose teachers are members of AATSP are eligible to participate in the National Spanish Exam. Details concerning the exam format, content, and fees are published in the September issue of Hispania each year. State Ferias There are several colleges and universities in Tennessee that sponsor “Ferias” in March or April. Students at all levels of study are encouraged to participate in these activities. Information is sent to foreign language teachers who are members of TFLTA; however, a teacher does not have to be a member of TFLTA for students to participate.
