Sección 3: Límites laterales 12
Ejemplo 3.2. Veamos otro ejemplo de una función que tiene límites laterales
distintos en un punto. Sea la función definida a trozos
Solución:
y = f(x) =
−x + 2 x ≤ 1
x + 1 1 < x
f(1 − ) = lím
x→1− (−x + 2) = 1
f(1 + ) = lím
x→1 +(x
+ 1) = 2
luego
f(1 − ) = f(1 + )
∄ lím
x→1 (−x + 2)
y = −x + 2
y = x + 1
Decimos que el límite existe cuando ambos límites laterales son finitos e
iguales,
lim
x→a f(x) = L ⇐⇒ f(a− ) = f(a + ) = L
