Sisältö:<br />
Depending on the particular needs of the group, the course will include<br />
• <strong>fi</strong>nding of written material relating to the student’s <strong>fi</strong>eld from a range of sources such<br />
as journals, textbooks, the Internet. Additional reading materials may be provided by<br />
the teacher<br />
• reading a range of texts, applying appropriate strategies<br />
• presenting and discussing topics related to the <strong>fi</strong>elds of study<br />
• becoming familiar with strategies and tools for future language development.<br />

Materials, in paper or electronic format, provided by both the teacher and the students, will be<br />
distributed during the course.<br />

Arviointi:<br />
A variety of evaluation methods will be used, including peer- and self-assessment, portfolios<br />
and the continuous evaluation of performance. There will be no <strong>fi</strong>nal test. To meet the goals,<br />
students are expected to engage actively in the tasks and other work agreed upon at the beginning<br />
of the course. 1 credit = 14 contact hours and 13 hours of independent work.<br />

Tavoite: The aim of the course is for students to activate and develop skills in the academic<br />
and professional English of their <strong>fi</strong>eld and to gain con<strong>fi</strong>dence to communicate in situations<br />
relevant to their studies and professional life. The intention is that students improve their ability<br />

• understand general and academic spoken language, extract information and identify<br />
viewpoints<br />
• discuss academic topics, presenting ideas and opinions<br />
• read and understand academic texts and extract information<br />
• write clear and structured academic texts using the vocabulary of their <strong>fi</strong>eld<br />
