Clinical Animal Behaviour 3 op<br />

Target goup: Veterinary students, 4. - 6. year, max 6 students.<br />

Timing: Academic year 2011-2012.<br />

Objective: Main objective: Basic knowledge of conducting behaviour consultations in a veterinary<br />

context<br />

Learning outcomes: Basic knowledge of the etiology of the most common behaviour problems<br />

in dogs and cats and the development of treatment programs.<br />

Basic knowledge of learning theory. The interrelationship between some behaviour problems,<br />

pathology and welfare issues. Basic understanding of client needs and effective counseling.<br />

Students will participate in:<br />

o Behaviour consultations<br />

o Monthly seminar lectures<br />

o Writing client reports<br />

o Case follow up<br />

Contents: Ethology. Learning theory and applied learning theory. History taking. Counseling,<br />

basic psychology. Psychopharmacology. Emotional states and the disorders that result in<br />

the development of behaviour problems. Treatment of behaviour problems<br />

The students will be directed to further literature/papers according the cases they see and follow<br />

up.<br />

Completion: Preparing of speci<strong>fi</strong>c cases, following consultations, participating in writing of<br />

client report, directed self study, lectures.<br />

Evaluation: Passed/failed. Casebook, preparation and presentation of case study to peer<br />

group.<br />

Diseases of wild and exotic birds 2 op<br />

Target goup: 6 th year students of the Veterinary Faculty. Limited amount of participants 20<br />

Timing: Spring term 2012 (week 19)<br />

Objective: Deepening the knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of wild<br />

and exotic birds. Includes the WWF course in rescuing oiled birds.<br />

Evaluation: passed/failed<br />
