MÉCANISME DE L EMISSION 17 § V. — Mécanisme de rémission '> Le Roi ou son Conseil, ayant décidé l'émission, rendait une , ordonnance qui était transmise à la Chambre des monnaies. Celle-ci rédigeait, d'après Tordonnance royale, un exécutoire, où étaient précisées les conditions de l'émission, et l'exécutoire était transmis par messager aux ateliers monétaires en activité dans le royaume ou désignés pour l'émission. Sur la fabrication du maître, le garde prélevait des spécimens qu'il remettait à l'essayeur et, sur le rapport de celui-ci, il donnait ou refusait le permis de mettre en circulation. De toute pièce sou- mise à Vessai et brisée en quatre, le garde, le maître et l'essayeur retenaient trois morceaux ou « peuilles », le quatrième étant joint aux exemplaires mis en boite. C'étaient des monnaies qu'on laissait à part à raison de 1 sur 500 ou 1 .000 pour l'argent, i sur 200 ou 500 pour l'or. Les boîtes étaient closes en fin d'année "^, d'émission ou de maîtrise et expédiées à la Cour des monnaies pour examen ei jugement définitif. C'est ainsi que, selon le cas et après confron- tation avec les pièces courantes ^, la Cour ratifiait la délivrance des espèces ou, au contraire, suspendait la frappe et ordonnait une enquête pouvant avoir pour résultat la révocation du maître, sa mise à l'amende, son emprisonnement ou pis encore ^. Nous possé- dons un certain nombre de procès-verbaux d'ouverture des boîtes ; ils sont précieux pour suppléer aux ordonnances ou exécutoires disparus, pour contrôler les autres. Quand les monnaies étaient bonnes à délivrer, les vendeurs de métal et les frais payés ^, le maître recevait la visite d'un agent da 1. Boizard, Traité, comme au § III. 2.
