The CNR Lakeshore commuter service was dieselized late in 1959 using a variety of CNR diesels. Diesels had a short run as the<br />

La traction des trains de banlieue du CNR sur la ligne du Lakeshore passa au diesel à la fin de 1959, d’où le recours à une grande<br />

variété de locomotives diesels. Cependant, ce service fut retiré dès le 30 juin 1960. On aperçoit ici, à Turcot-Est, le dernier train,<br />

Portal Heights was the first station encountered literally at the north portal of the famous Mount Royal Tunnel. In the present day<br />

AMT era, this station has been renamed ‘Canora’, which is a contraction of ‘<strong>Canadian</strong> Northern <strong>Rail</strong>way’. This is fitting since it was<br />

the <strong>Canadian</strong> Northern <strong>Rail</strong>way who built the tunnel to gain access to Montreal and encourage upscale suburban development,<br />

particularly the Town of Mount Royal. For years, electric locomotives, such as 9101 with a heavyweight passenger car consist<br />

seen here at Portal Heights in 1949, hauled legions of commuters to and from Montreal just as AMT’s EMUs do today. Omer<br />

Heights en 1949, transportant de<br />

nombreux banlieusards quittant<br />
