UBIGEEK 2038:
THE NEW WORLD MASTERS
BY FATEH AMROUNE
ABSTRACT
“Software is eating the world” (Andreesen, 2011), UbiGeeks will
rule it.
We are in the middle of a silent power shift: fueled by
an unprecedented number of technological innovations
characterized by a high-speed diffusion and monopolies creation,
people leading those innovations, the UbiGeeks (combination of
ubiquity and geek), are on the verge of world domination.
UbiGeeks are leaders of giant tech companies, whom, in less
than 20 years, amassed enormous financial assets and built
inextricable dependencies on people life, politics, businesses
and basically every part of our society.
UbiGeeks bring to us so much knowledge, convenience, social
approval and opportunities that they create an addiction
equivalent to drugs, that enslaves us and raises the legitimate
question of the real extent of their power.
The bad news is that it’s just the beginning… there’s a larger
revolution in the making such as transhumanism, general AI,
holacracy and space exploration, to name a few.
Will they become the most powerful people on the planet?
What will happen if the trends accelerate, the most ambitious
projects succeed and those leaders decide to activate their
power?
This techno-fiction is the episode 1 of the UbiGeek story, an
exploration of a possible future inspired by facts, projects and
concepts already known in 2018.
BIRTH OF A NEW COUNTRY
In 2028, Mark Z, after a single mandate as US President,
disappointed by the inefficiency of politics to improve people life
and convinced that only knowledge and technology can save the
world, decided to turn his own vision into reality. He convinced
other tech leaders to merge their companies (Facebook, Apple,
Alphabet, Tesla, SpaceX, Amazon, Alibaba and Microsoft) to
create UbiGeek World Union aka UWU, an autonomous entity
with a market cap of $18 000 billion in 2028.
The vision of those tech leaders (known as the founding fathers)
is that traditional politic governance is outdated and should
be replaced by a new type of society, an holacracy based on
collective intelligence, leaner, more efficient, merit-based and
energy self-sufficiency.
By the end of 2029, UWU invested $100 billion per year to build
artificial islands in the Pacific Ocean.
In 2032, 100 islands were built. UWU set up its headquarter
in Kemada Island, the largest island with a population of over
1 million.
BEAST MAGAZINE #11
In 2033, UWU bought Greenland from Denmark for $1 500 billion
and installed its mega data center.
On May 26, 2034, UWU was officially recognized as an
independent state by the UN. At that time, the country owned
Greenland and 255 human-made islands for a total of 0,3 million
miles square and 20 million citizens.
By the end of 2038, with a GDP of $59 200 billion, UWU was the
richest and most powerful country in the world (US came second
with $32 000 billion).
The vision of the founding fathers is based on the belief that
only technology is pure enough to create the perfect society.
According to them, technology empowers highly motivated,
collaborative and skilled individuals to build together the best
and most balanced solution for the benefits of all.
A ROLE BASED SOCIETY
The UWU is a double pivot society based on technology and the
people to build it.
For optimal functioning, the UWU is distributed into 5 groups.
Each year, roles are automatically assigned by UbiAI, the most
advanced AI, in charge of the ministry of organization and robots.
The UbiGeek
This individual has usually a tremendous global influence, he
controls a major technology or company and generates ideas or
concepts that influence at least 80% of the world population or
30% of the world economy.
There’s 100 of them, a typical member of this group is usually a
leader or a founder of a digital/technology company generating
more than $10 billion, a super genius or a Nobel prize winner.
Their role is to set up the environment, propose new methodologies
and provide resources for the community to prosper.
The Extrapreneur
The Extrapreneur is a market builder. He has the responsibility to
challenge the UbiGeek to keep them competitive. There’s 1 000
of them, a typical member of this group is usually a leader or
founder of a digital/technology company generating a minimum
of $500 million.
The Disruptor
A disruptor is an individual working on technology concepts that
have the potential to create new markets to disrupt existing
ones.
Typically, a member of this group is a leader of a digital/
technology company using advanced technology or disruptive
models, an elite software developer, a philosopher or a scientist,
there are 10 000 members in this group.
