Bruno is a bright man. He speaks a little,
but when he speaks hits the target.
During a meeting Bruno asked: why did
we make so many efforts to maintain frequent
contacts with Spanish, French and
German colleagues ? Why did we estabÌish
the three structures called CATMIL
(Catalunia-Milano),GREMII, (Grenoble-
Milano) and WIEMIL (Wiesbaden-Milano)?
The reply was that we must be European,
that we have to know our European
partners and because within a few
years our University degrees wiIl be European
and not national as they are nowadays.
Moreover ,the Italian Orders are
under attack from our politicians and we
have to know and to meet the similar organizations
of the European engineers,
to better defend ourselves.
Apart this, the Italian Orders are provincial,
“in name and in fact”, therefore we
have to make all the possible efforts to
become less “provincial” and more international,
i.e. more European. Is everything
going well? Not really. At present
there is a problem that Bruno did not put
in evidence. How can the 12.200 members
of the Milan Order of Engineers
know and appreciate the results of the
frequent contacts with our Spanish,
French and German colleagues ? In fact
such contacts are carried out by a limited
number of members of the Order. How
can we percolate the results of our work
to all the other members?
Although not fully satisfactory, the reply
is that the minutes of the meetings with
the European colleagues are available
on the web site of the Order, so everybody
can read them and give suggestions
and comments.
We write this article in English, to put in
evidence the need of internationalization.
Moreover, we are at the disposal of all
the members of the Order who may need
specific information on the Spanish,
French and German markets. We said
“markets” because it is really possible
that some members of ours can be interested
in the said European markets for
their activities and business.
As an example, in Germany they are looking
for 50.000 engineers, with two characteristics
: to be graduated (five- years
course of studies in an engineering University)
and to know the German language
or, at least, to be fluent in English.
Let me add that Italy and several other
European Countries will not survive without
a severe effort of innovation in their
industries and services. Only the engineers
are in the position to innovate. Surely
lawyers or economists will not be
able to do innovation and to understand
its vital necessity. Innovation, together
with productivity and competitiveness are
matters that we have discussed and investigated
since long with OUI European
colleagues, from which we have learned
and we will have to learn a lot. In this
number of our Rivista you can find an article,
written by Giuseppe Susani, on the
same matter, i.e. on the relationship with
the European colleagues and with their
organizations similar to our Order. Susani
is giving you additional and factual
information. l
