Dorotea Liguori, entrepreneur
of Japanese origin who has
brought her creative precious
jewellery to Capri
Dorotea Liguori has been called the girl
with the pearl earring, after the famous
canvas by the great painter Jean
Vermeer. The truth is pearls have always
marked the destiny of this woman, whose
delicate appearance belies the strong and willful
nature so clearly expressed in her almondshaped
eyes, proof that she comes from the
Land of the Rising Sun. Daughter of a
successful Italian businessman, Gennaro
Liguori from Torre del Greco, who founded an
empire by importing cultivated pearls into
Europe, Dorotea is carrying on her father’s
tradition of success, which has led her into the
top ranks of the world’s forty most important
women executives. She was given her
Japanese name, Yaeko (which translates into
English as “eight wild-cherry petals”), because,
according to the Oriental tradition, it suggests
the possibility of eight different lives. Almost as if
to highlight this desire for change, Dorotea-
Yaeko has chosen to include Capri among the
many places where she cultivates her artistic,
cultural and – why not? – business interests.
The island that has always seen Dorotea as a
leading figure in important events and charity
galas (in fact, she is Chairwoman of the Italian
branch of “Feed the Children”, an association to
help Third World children), is now discovering
that she is also the astute owner and manager
of her Capri jewellery shop, which opened on
the characteristic Via le Botteghe, only a few
metres from the Piazzetta – a choice spot for
the elegant jewellery shop whose design and
furnishings recall the New York minimalist style.
Precious pearl necklaces, bracelets and other
pieces, as well as tasteful pendants and rare
coral necklaces and earrings are on display in
the shop windows and glass showcases.
Jewellery with imaginative names like “Drops of
Light” or “Flashes of Fire” will add to the beauty
of the island’s chic visitors’ elegant attire.
Alongside pricey jewellery for the rich and
famous, there is also an endless range of pieces
with semi-precious stones for teenagers and
women into a more casual and sporty look to
wear on the beach, the boat or at any leisure
moment.
