stancavo mai».
Quelli che ritrova oggi sono gli
stessi posti di allora o la vecchia
Capri ha lasciato spazio alla
nuova?
«Le mie vacanze sono sempre Capri.
Dopo tanti anni, non solo non mi sono
stancata, ma non riesco a trovare un
luogo che mi piaccia allo stesso modo.
Devo dire, però, che il tempo ha cambiato
anche questo posto magnifico.
Adesso il turismo di massa ha conquistato
l’isola, soprattutto quello giornaliero
di chi arriva al mattino e se ne
va la sera. A volte mi sembra un’inva-
sione che molto spesso lascia alle sue
spalle sporcizia e degrado».
Se Capri è così cambiata, cosa è rimasto
delle sue più antiche tradizioni,
come il suo famoso artigianato?
«L’artigianato di una volta è scomparso.
Quello dei costumi, dei sandali,
delle ceramiche rimane solo in piccola
parte, mentre le grandi griffe hanno
sostituito le piccole botteghe. Questo,
però, non è un problema solo di Capri,
ma del mondo intero».
Come trascorre, oggi, le sue giornate
sull’isola?
«Mi alzo presto, esco e faccio una lunga
passeggiata. Vado in Piazzetta a prendere
il caffè e do’ un’occhiata
ai negozi. Alle volte,
però, mi piace rompere la
monotonia e allora affitto
una vespa e mi metto a girovagare
per le stradine al
di fuori del centro e del
caos. Conduco una vita
semplice, dai ritmi equilibrati
e scanditi dai tempi
della normalità. Amo molto
passeggiare e quando
sono qui mi piace salire
sul Monte Tiberio dove resto
sempre affascinata,
non solo dalla bellezza
della natura, ma anche
dall’alone di storia che

A NEVER-ENDING
STORY
Interview with LUCIA BOSÉ

Time and tourism have
changed the island,
but Capri is still the place
where Lucia Bosé
would like to spend
the rest of her life
Lucia Bosé’s love affair with Capri
has never been on the rocks, and as
a result the beautiful actress’s life
has become inseparable from that of the
island. She gazes contentedly at the vast
sea and the magnificent scenery as if, after
all these years, she were seeing them for
the first time.
Lucia Bosé’s career took her far away from
Capri, the passion of her youth, but it never
stopped her wanting to return. Her many
commitments throughout the world, including
the directorship of the Museo degli Angeli
that she herself created in Turégano in
Spain, have never prevented her from coming
back to her island.
“In the early years we used to stay down in
the port area and go for endless boat trips.
Capri is a remarkable island and, after all
these years, I still want to live here for the
rest of my life.”
When did you fall in love with Capri?
“I was just eighteen. It was like falling under
a spell that has never been broken. I felt
that this was the place where I would like
to spend the rest of my life.
I pointed out the exact spot to my friends:
Tragara, where nature is wild and untamed
and the greenery plunges down from the
high rocks to the sea near the Faraglioni.
Then I became a success, married, and my
destiny took me to Spain, far from Italy and
Capri. But I used to return to the island
every year in the summer whenever I could,
because it was my refuge and I found
peace here.”
What was Capri like in those days?
“I have always been fascinated by this
place, from the very beginning.
There weren’t so many people then and I
used to come and have my Capri holiday
every August.
Nevertheless, there were a lot of
Americans, writers and intellectuals. The
atmosphere was really stimulating. I
remember we used to stay at Assunta’s
pension, and spend most of the day at the
Faraglioni. I’m not fond of the sun, but I
never used to tire of the Faraglioni.”
Do those old haunts still exist or has the
old Capri given way to the new?
