their lips.
However, it has been reported that few patients
actually receive treatment for this syndrome
because it is a benign condition. Treatment
using the Q-switched neodymium:
yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser, 9
Q-switched alexandrite laser (QSAL), 10
and cryosurgery 11 has been reported in only a
small number of patients.
Our patient refused any treatment and was left
under observation.

C onclusion
L a u g i e r-Hunziker syndro m e is essentially
a benign disorder of undetermined etiology. It
should always be kept in mind when confro n t e d
with a patient with such pigmentations. It is very
important to consider a complete diff e rential diagnosis
of mucocutaneous pigmentation and to
undertake thorough investigations before attributing
the diagnosis of LHS. We describe the first
case in Bulgaria with good prognosis, not associated
with systemic symptoms.
