The key test statistic for evaluating the signicance between an observed<br />

and random distribution is based upon the standardized Z score:<br />

< -1.96, it can be concluded that the calculated difference<br />

between the observed pattern and the random pattern is statistically<br />

signicant given that α = 0.05. Alternatively, if -1.96 < Z R<br />

< 1.96, we can<br />

conclude that the observed point pattern, although it may look somewhat<br />

clustered or somewhat dispersed visually, is not signicantly different from a<br />

random pattern, and we will fail to reject the null hypothesis.<br />

4. Results<br />

Results from the nearest neighbor analysis suggested that all sites from<br />

the observed chronologies were aggregated (Tab. 2).<br />

The mean nearest neighbor distance indicates a highest value for the<br />

Iron Age sites while the Chalcolithic sites experiencing the lowest values of<br />

mean distance. Values of nearest neighbor statistic for Islamic sites were nearly<br />

signicant (p= 0.054), suggesting an aggregated pattern, but for the Neolithic<br />

sites indicating a less signicant pattern of aggregations. Nearest neighbor<br />
