Nowadays problem.
In over twenty countries around the world,
children are direct participants in war.
Their childhood is ruined, they have no possibility
to attend school, and they are often subjected
to violence: about 280.000 children are
involved nowadays in armed conflicts, from
Myanmar to Burundi.
The military use of children is forbidden all
around the world, but, even if it was banded
by the Declaration of human and citizen
rights at the Conference of United Nations on
10 th December 1948, there are still nowadays
over 500.000 child soldiers. Child soldiers are
situated mostly in Africa (about 8.000 in
South Sudan and even 10.000 in Central African
Republic), but there are also exploited
children in India and Pakistan(in the Kashmir
region), in China, in the Philippines (Mindanao),
in Vietnam and in wild zones of Centralsouth
America. Since the 1970s, a number of
international conventions have tried to stop
the use of children in armed conflicts.
What are we
doing?
To make sure that children
go to school and do not go
to work or, even, use
weapons, the Organization
of United Nations have
promoted many programs
to help families in poor
areas of the world to reach
the goal of “no one child
soldier anymore”.
Unfortunately, there are
also reports that the use of
children in military forces is
still a major problem. In
some parts of the world,
this phenomenon is
increasing.
To stop these horrible facts,
we have to make sure that
people understand the risks
of exposing children to wars
by involving them as
soldiers, because these
boys and girls may fight on
the front lines, participate in
suicide missions, and act as
spies, messengers or
lookouts.
