Lisa rides the waves of Lofoten
Hotel manager Lisa Blom loves the sea, surfboards and people,
and here she has found her paradise.
Lisa (40) from Sweden is in her element when heavy waves strike
land. When the waves in her hair meet the waves in the ocean.
– Welcome to Nyvågar Rorbuhotell. It's nice to see you. Would
you like a waffle? asks Lisa.
A wide smile spreads across the face of Lisa, as she stands behind
the reception desk.
The wave surfer and ultra sport athlete first became hotel manager
at Kabelvåg in Lofoten. She grew up in Småland in Sweden and
worked at several Classic Norway Hotels in Møre og Romsdal, together
with her husband and chef Nils, before heading north. They
were delighted by the nature, experiences and people in Lofoten.
– It is happy and satisfied guests who give life to Nyvågar Rorbuer,
they are the heart. Something happens to the people who
come here, it's the unike serenity and a closeness to nature. The experience
of the mountain, the sea, the beaches, the forest, the paths
and the spring stones. Above all, the wildlife above and below the
waters surface, continues Lisa, while pointing to the crystal-clear
sea where you can see sea urchins several meters below.
– I consider myself a hands-on hotel manager, I love to be working
alongside the staff. Ski tourism is about to extend the season
here in Lofoten. Previously the summer season was very busy, and
it all calmed down during winter. Today, Lofoten has become a
year-round destination thanks to the Northern Lights and skiing,
explains Lisa. At Nyvågar you get the perfect ski holiday with a
concept Lofoten Ski Lodge.
We work with the Northern Alpine Guides, who designed the
ultimate holiday for ski tourists from all over the world. Certified
guides, with many years experience in Lofoten, take you through
Lofoten's wild and beautiful backyard.
We want to be a base camp from which to explore Lofoten. We
want to offer guests experiences on the sea, in the mountains,
through food and our stories. We are an adventure center with
wonderful beds and tasty food. In the upgraded fisherman’s
cabins, guests can choose from self-catered or eating in the hotel,
and often guests choose a combination of both. We strive to be a
vibrant hotel where our guests feel its pulse. That's my vision and I
think we're on the right track, says Lisa.
Akevittloft is a trademark of Nyvågar Rorbuhotel. A room that is
blessed by the Norwegian Aquavit's Friends and holds a
formidable 252 varieties of aquavit on the menu.
Sitting in the soft chairs by the windows, watching the Hurtigruta
passing by, is an unforgettable experience. The same can be said
about a visit to the Lofoten aquarium, or to Galleri Espolin, both of
which are in close proximity to Nyvågar Rorbuhotell.
The gallery has the largest collection of pictures by popular artist
Kaare Espolin Johnsen. His pictures of the Lofoten Islands and life
at sea are well known all over the world.
– Most of all we want guests to come here to experience the
Lofoten Islands and life on and by the sea, says Lisa Blom. She
concludes
– Others can tell you about it, but you must have been here to
understand it.
