O Desenho IndustrialUma das primeiras definições oficiais da atividade dodesenhista industrial foi escrita em 1957 e apresentadaem 1959 pelo ICSID (International Council of Societiesof Industrial Design) em Estocolmo:An industrial designer is one who is qualified by training,technical knowledge, experience and visual sensibility todetermine the materials, mechanisms, shape, colour,surface finishes and decoration of objects which arereproduced in quantity by industrial processes. Theindustrial designer may, at different times, be concernedwith all or only some of these aspects of an industriallyproduced object.The industrial designer may also be concerned with theproblems of packaging, advertising, exhibiting andmarketing when the resolution of such problems requiresvisual appreciation in addition to technical knowledge andexperience.The designer for craft based industries or trades, wherehand processes are used for production, is deemed to bean industrial designer when the works which are producedto his drawings or models are of a commercial nature, aremade in batches or otherwise in quantity, and are notpersonal works of the artist craftsman. 66O primeiro parágrafo desta definição se refere àsatividades e qualificações do designer: experiênciaprática, conhecimento técnico, experiência esensibilidade visual para determinar materiais,mecanismos, formas, cores, acabamentos e elementosdecorativos de objetos que serão reproduzidos emquantidade por processos industriais.
