S U M M A R Y Institute of Rheumatology-Belgrade REITER'S SYNDROME - REACTIVE ARTHRITIS II OTHER DISAGREEMENTS: DIAGNOSTIC CRITERIA, ACUTE ANTERIOR UVEITIS, PREVALENCE IN WOMEN, REACTIVE OR INFECTIVE ARTHRITIS, ANTIBIOTIC TREATMENT, PROGNOSIS VLASTIMIR MLADENOVIĆ, ĐUNAJDAR KERIMOVIĆ-MORINA There are many diagnostic criteria for Reiter's Syndrome (Reiter's disease, reactive arthritis), ranging between the strict ones (the triad: arthritis, urethritis, conjunctivitis) and simple and unspecific ones (unexplained arthritis involving 6 or less swollen joints). The most practical criterion is: posturethritic or postenterocolitic arthritis is Reiter's syndrome, reactive arthritis. Many characteristics of acute anterior uveitis appearing in the course of spondyloarthropathies (ie RS) suggest that uveitis is an independent disease, coinciding with spondyloarthropathies. The disease is about 10 times more frequent in males in urogenital but equally frequent in both sexes in enteropathic form of the disease. Is chlamydial arthritis reactive or infective arthritis? The arthritis episode in about 70% of patients lasts up to 6 months. According to long term followups relapses occur in 50-75%, sacroiliitis in up to 40%, spondylitis in 12-15% and chronic arthritis in 10-16% of patients. Antibiotics are not recommended for routine treatment of RS/ReA. They should be used for the treatment of trigger infection, of proven chlamydial arthritis, and for the prevention of relapses when urogenital infection appears.
