that visited us from Slovenia. Hans had no problem working with
them even if he did not speak Slovenian.
Hans was always willing to help where he could. He lent
$3150.00 to the club without interest (at that time the interest
was 18% per annum) for the bowling ally to be built. Then the
roof of the church needed replacing. A collection for the roof
was made and Father Valerijan donated $1000.00 towards the
new roof. In September 1990 the president Marica Kerčmar and
my brother Franc Tehovnik bought material for the roof. The
following week Hans, my brother Franc and his son Eric
changed the roof on the church. Janez Marinič helped them one
day. At that time the house had to be repainted. Hans painted the
house by himself. He was the secretary of the Slovenian Club
Planica for one year. A few times he also played the role of St
Nicholas for our St Nicholas concert.
It is now three year since his death (he died 2005). I have many
happy memories and some sad memories from the past 50 years.
Since the year 2000 I have to walk with crutches. Attending the
Slovenian mass at All Saints is still a pleasure for me. Usually
my brother Franc Tehovnik gives me a lift to the church. 43
Vokalni kvartet Planica
Leta 1988 se je par Slovencem porodila misel, da bi si ustvarili
slovenski moški pevski zbor v Wollongongu. Čeprav ni bilo
ljudi in glasov, ki bi bili pripravljeni žrtvovati čas za vaje, se je
vseeno zbralo šest ljudi: Maks Vočanec, Jože Komidar, Janko
Grivec, Franc Koprivec, Lojze Šturm in Pepi Mezgec. Lepo so
se shajali in vadili, toda še jim je bil potreben eden glas in tega
jim je dodal Janez Marinič, ki je vstopil v zbor pozneje. Seveda
tudi muzikanta je bilo treba poiskati. Mladi Rudi Črnčec je kot
študent se trudil, da je prihajal vsaki teden več kot 100km daleč.
To se vidi, da je imel veselje za glasbo in pa za družbo. Kmalu
so tudi izdali kaseto kot sekstet, na katero so bili zelo ponosni.
