tudi ta lep, praznični čas – srebrni jubilej blagoslova vaše cerkve.

praznujeta 40. obletnico blagoslovitve naše prve slovenske
cerkve v Avstraliji.

In the Shelter of All Saints
I would like to join with gratitude in the celebration of a silver
jubilee of the All Saints Church in Figtree. I am grateful that I
was able to work a few years with you dear fellow-countrymen,
you have worked very hard so that the Anglican Church became
the smallest Slovenian Catholic centre.
I arrived in Sydney on Saturday 11 September 1982. On the next
day, a Sunday, I met you all in Wollongong at the Slovenian mass
in Villa Maria Chapel. On our way to Wollongong we stopped at
the Bulli lookout where we were met by some of you. I remember
the late Ciril Škofic from Brezje met us there. He brought some
home produced wine and said “Ciril from Brezje brings this wine
for Ciril from Dolejnska, we can’t go without having cviček! (dry
wine from Dolejnska region)”.
At that time the Slovenian Club Planica was in the process of
buying the property of the Anglican Church in Figtree and they
were trying to get support from the Slovenian people. I was
present at one of the meetings which was held at Ivan and
Marinka Rudolf’s place. Also present were the late Milan Sirc,
Marica and Karlo Kerčmar, Ema Mailow and a few other
people. After the meeting I was of the opinion that the project
had merit and I would support it.
