In 1988 a few Slovenians thought it would be a good idea if they
could establish a men’s choir in Wollongong. There were not
many who wanted to sacrifice their time, but six men came
forward: Maks Vočanec, Jože Komidar, Janko Grivec, Franc
Koprivec, Lojze Šturm and Pepi Mezgec. They still needed
another singer and Janez Marinič joined the group. They also
needed an accompanist and they found him in Sydney. His name
was Rudi Črnčec and he travelled 100 km each way every week
to attend the rehearsals at the Slovenian Club Planica. They soon
released a cassette of Slovenian songs. After a while some
singers departed and Janez Stajnko joined the group. They often
performed at Slovenian functions in NSW and in the ACT. Their
