Η αρχαία πόλη της Πάφου φέρνει συνειρμικά<br />
στο νου την θεά του έρωτα και της ομορφιάς.<br />
Εδώ βρίσκεται ο βράχος της Αφροδίτης, πιο πέρα<br />
η παραλία που έχει το όνομα της αθάνατης<br />
καλλονής, το Σιντριβάνι του Έρωτα και άλλα<br />
αξιοθέατα που φέρνουν τύχη στα ερωτικά.<br />
Η Άγια Νάπα συνδέει την ονομασία της με ένα<br />
χριστιανικό θρύλο: σχεδόν χίλια χρόνια πριν, ένας<br />
κυνηγός βρέθηκε τυχαία σε μια σπηλιά, που α-<br />
κτινοβολούσε φως. Ο νεαρός είδε ότι το φως<br />
ερχόταν από την εικόνα της Παναγίας -πιθανόν<br />
κρυμμένης, την εποχή των διωγμών των χριστιανών-,<br />
κι έτσι η περιοχή ονομάστηκε η «Αγία<br />
του Δάσους».<br />
It seems as though the very air <strong>of</strong> the island<br />
is full <strong>of</strong> ancient myths. Paphos, a stylish resort<br />
as well as an ancient city, is also the place<br />
associated with the goddess <strong>of</strong> love and beauty,<br />
so, in addition to the must-sees <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Aphrodite’s Rock, the Aphrodite’s Baths and<br />
the Fountain <strong>of</strong> Love, you find here dozens <strong>of</strong><br />
other sites promising success in love affairs.<br />
The name <strong>of</strong> the Ayia Napa resort comes<br />
from a Christian legend. Around a thousand<br />
years ago, a local hunter came across an unusual<br />
cave illuminated with bright light. The<br />
young man looked inside and saw that the<br />
light was coming from the icon <strong>of</strong> the Theotokos.<br />
It must have had been hidden there<br />
at the time <strong>of</strong> the persecution <strong>of</strong> Christians.<br />
That’s how the town got its name, which means<br />
“the Saint <strong>of</strong> the Woods.”<br />
Сама атмосфера острова, кажется, наполнена<br />
древними мифами. Модный курорт и<br />
древний город Пафос прочно ассоциируется<br />
с богиней любви и красоты: тут есть и скала<br />
Афродиты, и Купальня имени бессмертной<br />
красавицы, и Фонтан Любви, и множество<br />
других достопримечательностей, дарующих<br />
удачу в амурных делах.<br />
Наименование курорта Айа-Напа связано<br />
с христианской легендой: около тысячи лет<br />
назад местный охотник случайно набрел на<br />
необычную пещеру, озаренную ярким светом.<br />
Юноша заглянул в нее и увидел, что сияние<br />
исходило от иконы Богоматери, спрятанной<br />
там, вероятно, во времена гонений<br />
на христиан. Так город получил свое название<br />
– «Святая из леса».<br />
