The 6Th OF JulY DAYS<br />
in FReDeRiciA<br />
From 4th-7th of July, <strong>Fredericia</strong>’s streets, lanes and<br />
rampart will be teeming with events and activities for all<br />
ages. The 6th of July Days celebrate the historic raid from<br />
<strong>Fredericia</strong> on the 6th of July 1849, when Danish soldiers<br />
defeated the Schleswig-Holstein forces that had besieged<br />
the fortress town of <strong>Fredericia</strong> for months.<br />
The Danes suffered heavy losses, but the enemy was<br />
driven back, and this helped turn the Danish army’s luck<br />
around during the Three-Year War. Several of the events<br />
during the 6th of July Days are about this historic battle.<br />
For example, you can try firing a rifle (without live bullets!).<br />
Another unique experience is the early morning<br />
canon salute on the 6th of July: specially trained home<br />
guard reserves from Southern Jutland will fire 76 mm<br />
anti-tank canons on <strong>Fredericia</strong> rampart. The 27 salutes<br />
can be heard all over town – even from as far as Trelde<br />
Næs.<br />
But the 6th of July Days offer much more than history<br />
– there’s also the Jazz and Blues Festival, a treasure hunt<br />
on the rampart, concerts, free breakfast for the town’s<br />
residents and visitors, city walks, a trip through the town<br />
on Madsbytrain, and much more.<br />

JAZZ AnD BlueS FeSTiVAl<br />
For the 27th time, the 6th of July Jazz and Blues Festival<br />
kicks off in the tent by Det Bruunske Pakhus on<br />
Kirkestræde. Concerts each evening and on the 6th of<br />
July all day from 10:00. Free entry to all concerts unless<br />
otherwise stated. See the full <strong>program</strong> for the 6th of July<br />
Jazz and Blues Festival on page 20.<br />
