The 6Th OF JulY DAYS in FReDeRiciA From 4th-7th of July, Fredericia’s streets, lanes and rampart will be teeming with events and activities for all ages. The 6th of July Days celebrate the historic raid from Fredericia on the 6th of July 1849, when Danish soldiers defeated the Schleswig-Holstein forces that had besieged the fortress town of Fredericia for months. The Danes suffered heavy losses, but the enemy was driven back, and this helped turn the Danish army’s luck around during the Three-Year War. Several of the events during the 6th of July Days are about this historic battle. For example, you can try firing a rifle (without live bullets!). Another unique experience is the early morning canon salute on the 6th of July: specially trained home guard reserves from Southern Jutland will fire 76 mm anti-tank canons on Fredericia rampart. The 27 salutes can be heard all over town – even from as far as Trelde Næs. But the 6th of July Days offer much more than history – there’s also the Jazz and Blues Festival, a treasure hunt on the rampart, concerts, free breakfast for the town’s residents and visitors, city walks, a trip through the town on Madsbytrain, and much more. ALL THE 6th OF JULY DAYS EVENTS ARE FREE UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED JAZZ AnD BlueS FeSTiVAl For the 27th time, the 6th of July Jazz and Blues Festival kicks off in the tent by Det Bruunske Pakhus on Kirkestræde. Concerts each evening and on the 6th of July all day from 10:00. Free entry to all concerts unless otherwise stated. See the full program for the 6th of July Jazz and Blues Festival on page 20.
