6.) Report from the study groups
To begin with Dr. Hesse stressed the excellent and close connection between FDS and EDA.
Study group Tolerances:
This study group has been concerned with the tolerances for dies, stripping tools and counter dies. Suggestions by
the members have been taken into account. The study group Tolerances for Dies has been completed successfully.
Study group Designation of Cutting Lines:
This study group was founded in order to find standardized definitions for terms used in connection with cutting
lines. All the well-known manufacturers of cutting lines have taken part in this study group and signalled their
agreement to the as yet unpublished results.
Study group Rubber:
The study group Rubber has been reactivated.
This study group has been founded in the German section in 2003 and was at that time chaired by Mr Kemper of
N-Tec. The documented results from the original study group - among others an article by F. Appel and Elastogran
published in the EDA magazine - are going to be taken into consideration.
The next meeting is scheduled for 18th October 2008 in Würzburg. Mr Olaf Abendroth has agreed to chair the
study group. Mr Appel has lent technical assistance during the first meeting. The first goal is to define criteria and
objectives of the study group.
It was remarked that general suggestions for new or already existing study groups would be welcome at all times.
7.) Reports from the regions:
Section Germany, Dr. Dietmar Hesse:
First Dr. Hesse again praised the very successful general meeting combined with the Technology Forum in Luxemburg
and sincerely commended Mr Hogrefe for the excellent organization.
The reorganization of the EDA has been an important subject in 2008. There was a regional meeting of the “Lake
Constance group” with participants from Harzenetter, Lasertec, Seeger and Schweiger companies. The aim of the
meeting was to exchange experiences and talk about mutual interests. Dr. Hesse made an appeal to also hold
similar meetings in other sections.
