This lecture course provides a survey of major developments in English literature and culture
since the late 18th century.
Credits will be assigned on the basis of regular attendance and a written exam
Literatur
Much of this lecture will be based on The Norton Anthology of English Literature, Vol. II.
A reading list will be obtainable in February on Campus Online. The texts on this list will have to
be read by all students who wish to participate in the final exam.

Modernism in British culture. We will discuss key literary texts, but also look at varieties of
modernism in painting, photography and film.
