Where little Aisha lives there is no place for games,
fairytales and dreams. She stands alone in an
alleyway looking into the camera that wanders
through the dilapidated and almost deserted
streets. A voice-over describes this desolate
wonderland. Aisha lives in Mar Elias, a Palestine
refugee camp near Beirut, inhabited mostly by
Christians. A high percentage of the more than
one thousand people in the camp are chronically
ill. Like many other children, Aisha has no
future here.
Zafer Topaloglu was born in 1978 in Turkey.
He holds a B.A. in Film and Television from
Istanbul “Bilgi University”, and a Masters in
Lens-Based Digital Media from the “Piet Zwart
Institute” Rotterdam. His videos have been
screened at international video and film festivals
and galleries, e.g. the European Media Art
Festival, Video Art Festival and the This Is Not a
Gateway Festival. While his earlier work deals
with the pain of others, his more recent films
take a more personal and intimate direction,
combining found and archival footage with his
personal voice.
Tam, gdzie mieszka mała Aisha nie ma miejsca
na zabawy, bajki czy marzenia. Stoi sama w alejce
patrząc w kamerę, która wędruje po zniszczonych
i niemalże opustoszałych ulicach. Głos
narratora opisuje tę niegościnną krainę
czarów. Aisha mieszka w Mar Elias –
palestyńskim obozie dla uchodźców niedaleko
Bejrutu, zamieszkałego w większości przez
chrześcijan. Duży procent ponad tysiąca ludzi
w obozie jest chronicznie chora. Tak jak wiele
innych dzieci, Aisha nie ma tutaj przyszłości.
Aisha in Wonderland | Aisha w Krainie Czarów
Wunderland. Aisha lebt in Mar Elias, einem
palästinensischen Flüchtlingslager bei Beirut,
in dem sich vorwiegend Christen befinden.
Ein hoher Prozentsatz der weit über tausend
Menschen im Lager ist chronisch krank. Aisha
hat hier wie viele andere Kinder keine Zukunft.
