Communicating digitally in split seconds belongs to our everyday
life. However, which effects does this have on our understanding
of lasting values?
What lasts is more and more becoming a myth through the Internet.
The static knowledge of experts is replaced by the dynamic
knowledge of many. To be up-to-date, people continuously inform
themselves. The principle “always on” leads the masses. The
chance to be “offline” is more and more becoming a luxury good.
The fact that well-designed surroundings influence people’s
actions is generally accepted by architects and product designers.
However, which importance does good design have in our digital
world?
The architecture of virtual spaces and digital sites has to equal
real architecture in every way. A useful information architecture –
i.e. the organisation of spaces where information is stored – is
essential when competing for users. Against the background of
a growing wealth of digital information, only those websites
which stand out because of their good design are accepted. To
do justice to the importance of the information structure, the
MFG Baden-Württemberg currently sets up the Information and
Media Architecture Lab in co-operation with the University for
Media Studies.
The aed is committed to linking-up different disciplines from the
fields of architecture, engineering and design. Can something
similar be achieved in the field of digital media?
Especially in the IT and creative industries the different fields are
more and more growing together: developers from the automotive
industry make use of technologies from the field of games and
urban planers come together with 3D animation experts. As a
network expert, the MFG‘s aim is to bring representatives from
different fields together.
